Sonia Delaunay’s tapestry La Courbe Grise was woven between 1970 and 1972 at the renowned Pinton workshops in Aubusson. Executed by hand in wool, the piece measures 184 × 135 cm. It bears the woven signature “Sonia Delaunay” along with the Pinton monogram. On the reverse, a bolduc (or tapestry passport) confirms its title, La Courbe Grise, and records the production number “5/6.”
A visionary figure of the Parisian avant-garde, Sonia Delaunay was a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spanned painting, design, fashion, and textiles. She played a central role in the development of abstract art and co-founded the movements Orphism and Simultanism, both dedicated to exploring the interplay of colors and forms. Her engagement with textiles and tapestries reflected a broader philosophy: bringing art into the rhythm of daily life.
